Wix Studio's end: what we know, what to do
Is Wix Studio ending? What Wix told us, what is still missing officially, what you can export and which alternatives fit B2B company websites.

To our knowledge, Wix Studio will be shut down within roughly twelve months and replaced by a new editor that Wix internally calls "Wix Studio 2". We know this from conversations with Wix management in summer 2026, not from a public announcement: as of October 2026 there is neither an official statement nor a date. We were a Wix Studio partner and spent years building websites and our own extensions on the platform. Here we separate clearly what Wix told us from what is publicly documented. Then come: what this means for your website, what you can export, five steps for now, three options compared, and our take.
Key takeaways
- Wix told us in conversations in summer 2026: Wix Studio is to be shut down in about 12 months, with a new editor ("Wix Studio 2") taking over.
- As of October 2026 there is no official announcement and no shutdown date. The only confirmed piece is the AI builder Wix Harmony, unveiled on 21 January 2026.
- Your website keeps running until the shutdown. There is no need for a rushed migration, but the planning belongs in this year.
- Wix does not export a working website: CMS collections come out as CSV, media only folder by folder, and blog posts, per the Wix Help Center, not at the push of a button.
- You can move a domain away from Wix 60 days after purchase at the earliest, and Wix says the transfer takes up to 7 days.
- Our decision: no new websites on Wix Studio. For ambitious B2B sites we recommend Astro or Next.js with Sanity, with Webflow as an intermediate step.
The short answer
Wix Studio, the agency version of the Wix website builder, is to be shut down within roughly twelve months, according to Wix. This information comes from conversations we had with Wix management in summer 2026. A new editor, internally called "Wix Studio 2", is meant to replace Wix Studio, and the company is realigning entirely around an AI-centred product line. As of October 2026 there is no official date.
For you this means: your Wix Studio website keeps running for now, and nothing needs to be rushed. A move is coming either way, though, into the new Wix editor or onto a different system. If you have to move anyway, make the platform decision yourself instead of leaving it to Wix.
We no longer build new websites on Wix Studio and no longer recommend it. For small sites, waiting for the official migration path is a reasonable choice. For B2B websites that are meant to generate enquiries, we advise Astro or Next.js with Sanity, with Webflow as the intermediate step.
Is Wix Studio being discontinued? What is known and what is missing officially
As a Wix Studio partner, we were briefed by Wix on its plans in summer 2026. The public messaging so far sounds different: in January 2026 a Wix employee wrote in the official Wix Studio forum that Wix Studio would remain and receive the same AI features as the new builder Wix Harmony. Since June 2026, several Wix partners have described previews of a new Studio editor on their blogs, none of them with a date. The table shows which statement rests on which basis.

Is Wix Studio being discontinued? What is known and what is missing officially
| Statement | Source | Status October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Wix is realigning entirely around an AI-centred product line | Conversations with Wix, summer 2026 | publicly supported by the launch of Wix Harmony |
| A new editor ("Wix Studio 2") is to replace Wix Studio | Conversations with Wix, summer 2026 | not officially announced |
| Wix Studio will be shut down in about 12 months | Conversations with Wix, as of summer 2026 | no official date |
| Wix is pushing headless in the same direction | Conversations with Wix, Wix developer documentation | product publicly available |
| Wix Harmony, AI builder with the agent Aria | Wix press release, 21 Jan 2026 | official, gradual rollout |
| "Wix Studio will remain" | Wix employee in the Studio forum, January 2026 | latest public statement from Wix on this |
| Previews of a new Studio editor | Blogs by Wix partners, June to August 2026 | unofficial, no date |
| Migration path for existing Wix Studio websites | none | missing |
Wix swapping out editors is nothing new. According to the Wix Help Center, Editor X, the predecessor of Wix Studio, was transitioned step by step, and the move was complete in January 2025. Websites their owners had not moved themselves were migrated automatically by Wix. The live version stayed unchanged, some features such as vertical sections were dropped, and going back to Editor X was not possible. Whether Wix will handle the switch to Studio 2 the same way is open. How AI builders like Harmony work in general is covered in building a website with AI.
What does this mean for your existing Wix Studio website?
In the short term, nothing. Your website stays online, and forms, shop and bookings keep working. The risk lies in the timing: when Wix switches off the old editor, Wix sets the date and terms of the move, not you. These are the five points worth knowing now.
- Forced migration: With Editor X, Wix migrated websites that had not been moved automatically. Expect a similar step, and expect that some features may be dropped along the way.
- Domains: If your domain is registered with Wix, it is tied to your Wix account. Your MX records, the entries that tell the internet which server accepts your email, move with it.
- Apps and Velo code: Velo is Wix's development environment. Custom functions built on it rely on Wix-specific interfaces and have to be checked, often rewritten, in any new editor or system. The same applies to apps from the Wix App Market.
- CMS content: Collections, the database tables inside Wix, are the most exportable part. Text typed directly into pages is not.
- Rankings: Every platform switch changes URLs, page structure and code. Without a redirect plan you lose visibility in Google and in AI answers.
What can you export from Wix Studio?
Less than many people expect. According to the Wix Help Center, a Wix website has to run on Wix's servers because it relies on Wix's own technology and services. Your content belongs to you, but you cannot take the website with you as a working whole. The table shows the state of play according to the Wix Help Center and Wix developer documentation.
What can you export from Wix Studio?
| Component | Export possible? | How |
|---|---|---|
| CMS collections | yes | as a CSV file: whole collection, filtered items or just the field structure |
| Shop products (Wix Stores) | yes | product list as CSV |
| Images and videos | limited | download in the Media Manager, multiple files only within one folder, free Wix and Shutterstock media not at all |
| Blog posts | no export button | not possible according to Wix, developers pull them via the Blog API, the programming interface |
| Velo code | yes, as code | via Git integration into a GitHub repository, will not run outside Wix without rework |
| Design and layout | no | pages are rebuilt on the new system |
| Text placed directly on pages | no | via a crawl, an automated read of the live website, or by hand |
| Domain | yes | transfer with an authorisation code (EPP code), 60 days after purchase at the earliest, takes up to 7 days |
How we get content out of Wix in practice and move it into a new content model is described in migrating Wix to Next.js. The general flow of a system switch, whatever the source system, is covered under CMS migration.
What should you do now?
As long as Wix names no date, time is on your side. Use it for preparation you will need in every scenario, whether you stay with Wix or leave.
Build an inventory
: List every page, collection, form, app, Velo function, integration and domain. For each one, note who maintains it and whether your business depends on it.
Test the export
: Export every collection as CSV as a test, download your media folder by folder, and connect any existing Velo code to GitHub. This shows you early on what will have to be moved by hand.
Secure your rankings
: Pull all URLs with clicks and positions from Google Search Console. This later becomes your list of 301 redirects, the permanent forwards from every old address to its new target.
Decide on the platform
: Decide based on what your website needs to deliver in three years, not on the least effort today. The options table below helps.
Set the timeline
: Schedule the move for a quiet business period, with a buffer before the shutdown. If a relaunch is due anyway, bring it forward and save yourself a second move.
Which signals can get lost in a switch and how to keep them is covered in website relaunch without SEO loss. For the initial stocktake, an SEO audit is a good starting point.
Stay, Webflow or Next.js: which option fits you?
There are three honest paths, and each has its place. What tips the balance is what your website needs to deliver in three years, not which path feels most comfortable today.

Stay, Webflow or Next.js: which option fits you?
| Criterion | Stay with Wix (Studio 2) | Webflow | Astro or Next.js with Sanity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Effort now | low, move on Wix's terms | design rebuilt, content via CSV | rebuild with your own content model |
| Planning certainty as of October 2026 | low, neither date nor migration path | high, established editor | high, code and content are yours |
| Control over timing | Wix decides | you decide | you decide |
| Design freedom | high within the editor | high, visual without code | no ceiling, through code |
| Editing by marketing | in the Wix editor | in the Webflow editor and CMS | in Sanity with live preview |
| Custom logic and integrations | via Velo, tied to Wix | via embeds and interfaces | open, such as CRM connections or calculators |
| Dependence on the vendor | complete | medium, hosting with Webflow, content exportable as CSV | low, hosting can be switched |
| Fits | small sites without growth plans | B2B with manageable scope and few languages | ambitious B2B, several languages, knowledge hub |
Wix itself is pushing a fourth variant: Wix Headless. Wix stays the backend for shop, bookings or member areas, while you build the frontend, the visible website, yourself. This makes sense if deep Wix business features are the only reason to stay with Wix. The dependence remains, it just sits somewhere else. The principle is explained in headless CMS. The detailed platform comparison is in website builder, Webflow or Next.js, and the two builders side by side in Wix vs. Webflow.
Switch now or wait?
Both can be right. It depends on size, goals and how much custom technology sits inside your website.
Switch now if
An early switch pays off above all when your website is part of your sales engine.
- your website is meant to bring in enquiries or applications and you want to grow its visibility in Google and in AI answers
- you were planning a relaunch within the next 12 months anyway
- custom Velo functions, integrations or several languages are involved
- you want to set the migration date yourself instead of having Wix set it for you
Wait if
Waiting is defensible when the site is small and little revenue depends on it.
- your website is a digital business card with a handful of pages
- you run no custom functions on Velo
- shop, bookings or member area are deeply embedded in Wix and a switch would mean rebuilding them entirely
- you want to follow Wix's official migration path once it exists
Even if you wait, do the inventory, export test and ranking backup from the steps above. It costs little and shortens any later move.
Our take
We no longer build new websites on Wix Studio and no longer recommend it. Anyone starting on Wix Studio today is building on an editor whose end Wix has announced to us, and will foreseeably move a second time. This is not an easy call for us: we built on Wix Studio for years and developed our own extensions for it.
Panic is still out of place. Wix handled the switch from Editor X without taking live websites down, and nothing suggests that existing websites will disappear overnight. Our advice: plan now instead of waiting. Whether Studio 2 or another system, you will have to move anyway, so use the occasion to make the platform decision afresh.
For small sites, the official Wix path is fine. For B2B websites that need to be found and generate enquiries, we recommend Astro or Next.js with Sanity as the content database. Webflow is a solid intermediate step: as a certified Webflow partner, we use it where scope and languages stay manageable. We have taken the route out of Wix ourselves. in-sync.io moved from Wix to Next.js with Sanity in 2026 and has since served every page as server-prepared HTML that AI crawlers, the fetching programs behind ChatGPT and other AI services, can read directly. How we set up a switch like this is shown on our website relaunch agency page, and our web development agency handles the technical build.
Frequently asked questions
According to what Wix told us in conversations in summer 2026, yes: Wix Studio is to be shut down within roughly twelve months and replaced by a new editor, internally called "Wix Studio 2". As of October 2026 there is no official announcement and no date. Publicly, a Wix employee still stated in January 2026 that Wix Studio would remain.
It keeps running until Wix switches off the old editor. After that a move is required, into the new Wix editor or onto another system. With the predecessor Editor X, the Wix Help Center says Wix migrated websites that had not been moved automatically, without downtime on the live version. Some features were dropped, and returning to the old editor was not possible.
Wix Studio 2 is the internal name of a new Wix editor meant to replace Wix Studio. As of October 2026, Wix has not officially introduced it. Some Wix partners have described previews on their blogs since June 2026, but none gives a launch date. Reliable details on features, pricing and migration will only come with an announcement from Wix itself.
Not as a working website. According to the Wix Help Center, a Wix website has to run on Wix's servers. You can export CMS collections and shop products as CSV, media folder by folder, and Velo code through the GitHub connection. Design and layout stay behind, and blog posts have no export button, only the route through the programming interface.
For B2B websites with growth plans we recommend Astro or Next.js with Sanity: code and content belong to you, and languages and page counts are not capped. Webflow is the intermediate option for manageable websites that marketing wants to edit visually. For small sites without custom technology, the official Wix successor may be enough.
Yes. You start the transfer in your Wix account, and Wix sends an authorisation code (EPP code) to the domain owner's email address, which you enter at the new provider. According to the Wix Help Center, this works 60 days after purchase or the last transfer at the earliest and takes up to 7 days. Set up your email records at the new provider first.
